THE ANC should start listening to the clever blacks and clever blacks want Jacob Zuma to leave office.

Most clever blacks (western educated and professionals) and who reside in Gauteng would appreciate this president’s exit.

This is a constituency, created by the ANC, that is likely to make the party lose Johannesburg and Nelson Mandela Bay in the local elections if it is not careful.

ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa hit the nail on the head when he said that the middle strata were not concerned about grants, but wanted good governance – and the party’s No1 lacks this aspect in spades.

According to the City Press, Jacob Zuma said corruption was a “western thing” when he wanted corruption charges against him dropped.

This statement is embarrassing to any thinking South African.

Theft is theft, even in traditional society.

No one took cows from someone’s kraal and claimed it was ubuntu.

It is theft and our tax money was stolen by Nkandla upgrades.

Trying to find loopholes within the law does not make it moral at all.

The clever blacks who voted for the party (myself included) are not buying No1’s victim mentality. This group – the middle strata – also voted for the ANC in the hope that the party would see the vote as an opportunity to correct its ways.

This is why clever blacks love the public protector, Thuli Madonsela. Someone finally told the president and the country that the way the country was being governed was taking it in the wrong direction.

t is becoming clear that our blind loyalty was the wrong decision.

The ANC is not seeing its wrong ways. Instead it is defensive.

I really pity clever blacks in the movement currently.

They now have to defend what is indefensible because of loyalty, patronage and simply keeping a job.

And the ANC’s insistence on keeping No1 is causing damage to the party at the speed of lightning.

The reason that the Nkandla saga is not disappearing is not a “white thing”, it is symbolic of everything that the black middle strata finds wrong in the party: corruption, patronage and lack of governance – all values that the black and white middle strata abhor.

This is why clever blacks love the public protector, Thuli Madonsela.

Someone finally told the president and the country that the way the country was being governed was taking it in the wrong direction.

Finally it was not something people whispered in family dinners.

No one is buying the dumb act by the president.

The ANC misses the point when it keeps claiming that millions voted for it as an approval of its current leader. What we forgot to see clearly in voting for the ANC is that the ANC was never rotten in the middle.

Its previous leaders, despite their flaws, were not as morally tainted as this current one.

This is why the party will never self correct with its current leader.

Every time the black middle class hears about Nkandla and about the president’s lack of accountability, it starts to create a space in which it begins to regret voting for the ANC.

Yes, the victim mentality got No1 to the top position.

We were still in shock and the shock is wearing thin.

We know what to expect now and it sounds like a bad tape rewinding itself. In fact, it feels like we are being abused immensely and our intelligence insulted by the defensive nature of the ruling party.

The clever blacks I know are becoming very concerned about the governance of this country.

Had the president listened to that clever black, our public protector, and paid back the money (which was a very lenient finding), the clever black would have breathed a sigh of relief and the Nkandla scandal would have disappeared.

Now the party is in this mess because it refused to listen to a clever black from the word go and risks losing two big municipalities because clever blacks are simply fed up. If the ANC loses Nelson Mandela Bay and Johannesburg, which country is it running?

It’s time to listen to the clever blacks.
